Your notes are yours.
The short version: Cohestry has no servers holding your notes, no analytics SDK, no tracking and no advertising in the apps.
In the apps
Where your notes live
Notes and files you write are stored on your devices and, if you choose, synced between them through your own private iCloud database. Cohestry does not operate a server that stores or reads your notes.
Intelligence runs on your device
Connections are worked out on your device. Features that use Apple Intelligence, such as local reflection and suggested tags, use Apple's on-device model; no Cohestry service sees your notes to do this.
What the system can see
Cohestry adds your notes to on-device Spotlight so they appear in system search. Unfinished drafts, quick captures and share-extension captures are kept locally until saved. Preview copies of attachments are temporary local files.
No tracking
The apps contain no analytics SDK, tracking or advertising. No note titles, bodies, filenames, tags or search queries are sent to any telemetry. Sync diagnostics record account and transfer state and times, never note content.
When you share or export
- Sharing a note sends what you typed and nothing else by default: no identifiers, no tags. A note with attachments goes as a ZIP with the files.
- Include tags and details in shared notes (off by default) adds the note's details and the tags you chose. Tags the app suggested are left out unless you also turn on Include suggested tags.
- Back up library always writes everything, because a backup that cannot restore is not one. The button says so.
Agent access (Mac, Pro)
Agent access starts off. When you turn it on, the agents you connect on your Mac can read only what you allow; journals and attachments start excluded and writes start as suggestions for you to review. Credentials detected in notes are redacted before an agent can read them. What an agent does with what it reads is governed by that agent's own provider and terms.
Apple Notes import (Mac)
With your permission, Cohestry reads the Apple Notes folders you select on your Mac and copies them into Cohestry. It uses macOS Automation for Notes only, never Full Disk Access, and never changes your Apple Notes.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. Cohestry receives no payment details.
On cohestry.app
The website does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. We may count aggregate events, such as page views, use of the example Brain and clicks on download buttons, with a privacy-friendly counter that does not identify you. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs for security and reliability.
The example notes on the website are fictional and were written for it. Nothing you do in the example Brain is stored.
